She has a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Valencia. She headed a research group at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona from 2002 to 2008. She is an ICREA researcher and professor of cell biology at Pompeu Fabra University, and an expert in cell ageing based on processes of regeneration and growth of muscle tissues. Her research focuses on the possibility of regenerating human muscle tissues and on its impact in diseases that involve neuromuscular disorders or loss of muscle mass, and also on the ageing process itself, issues about which she has written and published widely.
