Samuel Sánchez

Samuel is ICREA Professor at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia leading the group Smart Nano-Bio-Devices. His work deals with miniaturized systems and devices such as nanomachines, nanorobots and active matter, nanobiosensors to 3D Bioprinted Actuators and Soft Robots for applications in biomedical and environmental fields. Author of more than 115 publications, has been cited about 7300 times, filed 6 patents. He received several awards and recognitions such MIT TR35 as Innovator of the year in the Spanish edition 2014, Guinness World Records in 2010 and 2017, the Princess of Girona Scientific Research Award 2015 and the National Research Award for Young Talent 2016 among others. In 2013 he was awarded with the ERC Starting Grant and in 2015 and 2017the ERC Proof-of-Concept, in nanorobots as microcleaners and the last one being in flexible patch-like sensors for detection of a rare disease (in collaboration with Hospital Sant Joan de Déu).
