DNA: Mathematics and Mutations
- 13 from June 2021 from 13:50 to 14:35
- In person (by prior registration)
From sequencing DNA to sequencing decimals
By David Pinyol Gras, Museum of Mathematics of Catalonia (MMACA).
How do biologists know the sequence of coronavirus RNA? Using a similar technique, they discover the sequence of more than 300 decimal places of a division in a cooperative way. Discover it thanks to the help of your mobile phone and the great mathematician of the century Carl Friedrich Gauss.
To participate in this activity you must bring your mobile phone.
What's all this about mutations?
By Carmen Escudero, Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO).
Get closer to the world of genetics and mutations in a practical way. Through a game you will discover what DNA is, what this molecule does, how the information it contains translates into who we are and what happens when it suffers an alteration.
Presented by Néstor López Serveto, with the collaboration of the Associació Catalana de Comunicació Científica (ACCC).
