BSc in Biology, MSc in Ecology and PhD in Ecology by the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). Throughout her research career she has developed an interdisciplinary profile for the study of social-ecological systems, especially agro-livestock systems and their resilience.

She began her research interest in the ecological, social and economic values of ecosystem services, especially in agroecosystems of the Mediterranean basin and Latin America. Later, her research lines have included: the sociocultural evaluation of ecosystem services in cultural landscapes, as well as power relations and associated conflicts; the study of socioecological resilience; the analysis of social networks of mutual support and local and traditional ecological knowledge, especially around pastoralism, agroecology and the new peasantry; the analysis of adaptive co-management systems, especially in communal settings; and the participatory design of future scenarios oriented to decision making. Always from the perspectives of political agroecology, ecological economics, political ecology and action-oriented participatory approaches, trying to incorporate a gender perspective.

She has worked as a predoctoral researcher at the Department of Ecology of the UAM, and as a postdoc at the Department of Land Management of the University of Copenhagen, at the Campus of International Excellence of Environment, Biodiversity and Global Change of the Pablo Olavide University, as well as at the Wageningen University and the University of Cordoba (UCO).

She has been teaching since 2008, both in Biology and Environmental Sciences and in postgraduate courses in Spain, Germany and Denmark, as well as in the international master's degree in Rural Development coordinated by the University of Ghent (UGent). She is currently a beneficiary of a Juan de la Cierva grant - Incorporation to the Chair of Agroecology and Food Systems at the University of Vic (UVic).
