Ciudad infinita - Voces de El Ermitaño, Kathrin Golda-Pongratz, Lima (Peru) 2018

The 29-minute documentary is based on an investigation of the processes of urbanization and place-making in the neighborhood of El Ermitaño (Independencia, Lima), in collaboration with British architect John F. C. Turner, who portrayed and theorized self-building in Peru during the 1960s.

The rediscovery in Turner's archive of a historical documentary recorded in El Ermitaño, in 1964, and its subsequent return and screening in the place where it was filmed at the time, in 2016, initiates a process of activation of the collective memory and the production of a new documentary. Ciudad Infinita - Voces de El Ermitaño aims to visualize the contemporary challenges of the El Ermitaño neighborhood and recounts them through the voices of its inhabitants. It reactivates the memory of its origins and its multiple identities of migratory origin. It also makes visible the concerns and initiatives of the population itself, and provides ideas on how to take advantage of and encourage such initiatives for the improvement and consolidation of neighborhoods such as El Ermitaño.
