Discovering other life beyond our planet would be an unprecedented scientific and intellectual revolution in our perception of nature and the Universe. How can we establish the context in which life in the Universe could occur? We see, once again, that to achieve this goal it is essential to adopt a multidisciplinary approach, since the many factors involved span areas of knowledge traditionally separated from each other.
To address this and other questions, two world-renowned experts will discuss and share their knowledge and experience. On the one hand, Ellen S. Baker, physician and former NASA astronaut, will talk about her experience aboard the International Space Station, the vehicle that since 2000 has hosted more than 50 astronaut teams in space. On the other hand, Ignasi Ribas, director of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and researcher at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC), will explain his research in the search for exoplanets and in generating precise knowledge of the stars to improve techniques to find and characterize new worlds.
Finally, this debate will be attended by Sònia Fernández-Vidal, PhD in Optics and Quantum Information by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) where she is also a professor. Fernández-Vidal is also a Numerary Academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors and a world-renowned writer in the field of quantum physics for non-specialists.
