The Night - Caught by Surprise

Where

El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria

Type
In person (by prior registration)

Surprise is a primary emotional reaction of the organism, of short duration, which is followed by other emotions and reactions depending on the provoking stimulus. It is the organism's way of reacting when faced with a prediction error between what it expects or anticipates and what actually happens.

Surprise is triggered suddenly to express the existence of this conflict of expectations, either by a mismatch or a disappointment. Depending on the stimulus that triggers it, there are different types, which are distinguished from each other in terms of valence (character, quality), intensity and persistence. Surprise has different functions, the most ancestral being that of preparing the organism to face supervening situations, such as threats or uncertainties. Surprise is a very special protagonist in the world of literature, theatre and cinema, areas that will be covered from this perspective. Likewise, surprise is a distinctive component of the set of reactions that we experience with the impossible outcomes of magical illusions.

Illusionism will play a major role in this event.
