By what criteria can science be considered to be progressing and doing so adequately? Is it enough for science to expand knowledge or should we look beyond that and take into account its impact on improving people's lives or on the sustainability of the planet? Never has so much been invested in science on a global scale and even more so in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the urgency to obtain results and the need to make investments profitable (patents, technologies, etc.) can lead us astray.

Is it possible to establish criteria inherent in scientific activity itself in order to know what we are talking about when we speak of "scientific progress"? Is it possible to set limits to certain scientific adventures? Is it necessary to make the model of science we want to promote in our city explicit? What value do we want to give it: market value, with the generation of money, or public value so that it contributes to improving the conditions of human life in the long term?
