Cristian Canton Ferrer
Associate Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), where he oversees strategic initiatives such as the deployment of MareNostrum 5—one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers—and the transformation of the center into an artificial intelligence–driven hub that advances scientific, industrial, and European missions. His work emphasizes technological sovereignty, international collaboration, and the application of AI and HPC (High-Performance Computing) across fields such as climate science, healthcare, chip design, social sciences, and engineering in general. Previously, he spent over a decade holding leadership positions in the tech industry, notably serving as AI Director at Meta (Facebook) and at Microsoft. He holds a Master’s and a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Vision, and Machine Learning from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona.
