The Institut de Física d'Altes Energies (IFAE) is a public consortium between the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). It was formally created on 16 July 1991 and functionally depends on the Department of Business and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya. It is located on the UAB campus in Bellaterra, Barcelona. It is mainly dedicated to frontier experimental and theoretical scientific research in the fields of high energy physics and astrophysics. It places special emphasis on the technological developments associated with this research.
