Mercedes Martín-Benito

Theoretical physicist, expert in quantum cosmology and quantum gravity. She completed her doctorate at the IEM-CSIC and earned her PhD from the UCM in 2010. After several postdoctoral positions in international institutes (such as the Albert Einstein Institute in Germany or the Perimeter Institute in Canada), she joined the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 2018. She is now a tenure-track lecturer in the Department of Theoretical Physics at UCM and a member of the Institute of Particle Physics and the Cosmos (IPARCOS). Her research area covers different regimes of fundamental physics, always focused on exploring the interface between gravity and quantum theory, from the quantization of matter fields in curved spacetime to the quantum-gravity regime in which spacetime itself becomes the dynamical entity acquiring a quantum nature.
