Semiconductor
Semiconductor is a UK artist duo composed of Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. For over twenty-five years, they have developed a research-based and critical practice exploring the material nature of the physical world through science and technology. Their multidisciplinary works examine how human perception interferes with systems of observation, inviting us to expand our understanding of reality and our place in the universe.
They have worked closely with scientific institutions such as CERN, NASA, the Smithsonian Institution, the Charles Darwin Research Centre (Galápagos), the Extreme Light Laboratory at the University of Glasgow, and the UK Government Office for Science. Their work has been exhibited worldwide, in venues including Art Basel, the National Center of Contemporary Arts (Santiago), the House of Electronic Arts (Basel), and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
