Physicist and ICREA Professor at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), where he leads a research group in the quantum physics of macroscopic systems. He holds a PhD in Physics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Munich with a Humboldt Fellowship. Between 2013 and 2024, he was a professor and group leader at the University of Innsbruck and the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He has received several European grants and awards, including two from the European Research Council (ERC), and currently coordinates a project on macroscopic quantum superpositions of levitated nanoparticles.
